ABOUT US

Solai Group was started in the year 1935 with Solai Stores in Solai, Kenya. It was then expanded to Coffee plantations along with a Dairy farm. In recent years there has been a huge diversification program that has seen the advent of tea, macadamia and floriculture operations.

Solai Farm area covers 4,000 acres of cultivated land including dams, a well built-up road network, Solai Game Park, pastures and protected forest areas. More than one million indigenous and exotic species of trees have been planted all over the farm.

 

HISTORY SOLAI SANCTUARY

The Solai Sanctuary is set an 1,250 acres of hilly, undulating forest terrain.

Annual rainfall in the park is between 900mm and 1,000mm. The rainy season is from April to December. Temperatures range between 14C and 30C. During the dry season, the wind blows from the across the rift valley, often bringing dusty skies and night temperatures fall as low as 10C. The hottest period falls in March and April, when temperatures can rise above 30C in the day.

Solai Farm Divisions

COFFEE-

Solai Plantations has planted 250 acres of Arabica Coffee. Coffee plants are maintained and grown with high standards of cultivation and good agriculture practices.

All coffee berries are processed in the plantations at the inhouse coffee factory producing premium coffee.

Annual coffee production is more than 200 tonnes and we are looking to increase it to 250 Tons by good agricultural practices in the coming years.

 

MACADAMIA-

Macadamia is planted over 500 acres. Yields are in the range of 500 Tons of Nut in shell per annum.

Our macadamia factory can break and process nuts up to 1,000 tons per year.

 

TEA-

In the year 2010 company decided to plant Tea. At present we have 250 acres of tea.

 

CUT ROSES-

Cut Roses at our farms have recently been started and branded under the name 'Solai Roses'. Our Solai farm is based at an altitude of 2,000 metres above sea level. At present our rose operations cover an area of 10 hectares, our plan is to have 40 hectares of cut roses in Solai.

 

DAIRY-

Our herd consists of 500 premium Holstein cattle producing up to 3,000 liters of milk a day.

All our cows are milked in our fully automated milking parlours.

MAWA & PENDA, CHEESE

Mawa and Penda are also prepared from this rich quality milk, these products are sold

within Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Mozzarella, Cheddar and Paneer cheese are sold within Kenya.
